Production Notes
18-year-old Verdelho vines from the Borden Ranch appellation of Lodi grown on gravelly, Redding-clay-loam soils in a CCOF certified vineyard. Grapes were hand harvested and whole-cluster pressed the same day. The juice was pumped over prior to fermentation to help build texture into the wine and allow for a gently more oxidative style of winemaking. Wines were natively fermented, aged in neutral barrels, and kept on their lees (no stirring) until bottling. Minimal sulfur added, 79 cases produced.
By day, Katie and Corinne work in some of Napa’s most vaunted wine cellars, producing award-winning wines that would make your father-in-law drool. By night they pour their energy and passion into Birdhorse — without question one of the most exciting new wineries in the country. We love Birdhorse — co-founded by the two winemakers along with partner Tyler Ernst — for its electrically delicious wines and fresh takes on overlooked varieties. But more importantly, we love Birdhorse for its mission to update an industry long overdue for change by amplifying underrepresented voices in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
